It was directed by Takuya Igarashi, who also directed Ouran High School Host Club and Sailor Moon Stars, among others. It was adapted into an anime in 2008 by Studio Bones, part of their long string of hits that came early in the studio’s history and is not totally maintained to this day, but they definitely have a better hit rate than most studios.
